Mourne Mountain Marathon 2010
Welcome to the Mourne Mountain Marathon sponsored, once again by Lowe Alpine UK and Jackson Sports of Belfast. This is our 31st event and we hope to make it every bit as challenging and memorable as the last 30.
The Mourne MM is Ireland's only two day endurance and navigation event held each year in the beautiful mountains of Mourne in Northern Ireland. It is run entirely on a voluntary and non-profit basis by a team with many years experience of organising and competing in this type of event.
This website will be active from May to October and will be regularly updated with news, instructions, entry information and results.
Please note that various rules and safety information have changed from last year. All visitors to this website should read the Terms & Conditions before proceeding into the site.
Closing Date Looms
With less than 2 weeks until entries close the numbers are filling on the C and D classes. The Elite and B are still wide open so there could be some interesting wins this year.
We now have a handful of "Family" teams who we hope have a really good first Mourne MM. The back log of postal entries should now all be on the system so if you don't see your team in the SI Start List or there are any mistakes please get in touch with us via the Contacts page or email direct.
The Final Instructions will be published on 4th September and as you already know the location of the Event Centre, that surprise is gone. However, we do promise to have some novelty so please do take time to read them for any new info or last minute changes.

MMM now open to Juniors
After some consideration the MMM Committee is pleased to announce that the event is to be opened to 16/17 year old juniors in the C and D clases when partnered by their parent or guardian.
This brings the Mourne MM into line with similar events across the country and is made possible by recent changes in rules and guidelines of governing bodies. Additional rules and restrictions will cover these "family" teams in order to minimise the risks involved but the courses and challenge will be the same as for every other team - as will be the pain and the joy.
The MMM Committee is very excited by this development and we look forward to welcoming in the next generation of mountain enthusiasts as well as giving them the opportunity to test strengths skills learned in in other junior outdoor arenas. It also gives retired or retiring MMMers a chance to wax up those boots and dig out all those old stories of desperate mountain marathons gone by - and for their offspring to put them to shame.
ENTRIES for family teams will be by post only. See the entries section for details.
JULY 31st DEADLINE - Don't forget to get your entries in by July 31st after which the fee goes up by £10. If you're not certain about your partner or class, you can easily change these details online or by contacting us.

Gas and Maps Don't forget to pre-order gas if you are travelling by air. We have put handy links to maps and gas products from the Jackson Sports website in our instructions page . They will be at the Event Centre early on the Saturday morning.
Routes of previous events We've had a number of enquires about routes from previous events. You can find these in the Results section of this website along with photos, winners and times.
Event Centre Found
The MMM Committee were busy in April in the run up to launching the website and entries system. With that done the focus is now on to the course planning and all that goes with this very large piece of work. This is no armchair exercise even for someone with the experience and detailed knowledge of the Mournes as our new planner, Terry McQueen. Two key factors in this are the locations of the Event Centre and overnight camp. The former is usually decided quite early on and then many hours are spent driving the back roads, exploring hidden lanes and talking to famers as we search for some idyllic campsite.
This year, in a break from tradition have decided to reveal the location of the Event Centre in June as we feel that many people travelling to the area would like to book accommodation for the Friday night well in advance. And the winner is ...... The Silent Valley reservoir (by kind permission of NI Water).
We'll have more news for you in the weeks ahead, so please check back with us regularly.
